Job Title: Accounting Trainee

Responsible to: Mrs V Tillett

The post holder will report on a day-to-day basis to the Accounts Seniors.

The salary: 

The salary will be dependant on age and experience.

Salaries are paid monthly in arrears through the BACS System directly into the bank or building society account of each member of staff. 
Caladine must pay salaries through the BACS system. They cannot be paid by cheque.  It will therefore be important to supply account details in order to ensure prompt payment.

Working week:

The hours of work for this post are 35 hours per week, excluding meal breaks (these are unpaid), 52 weeks per year and hours of attendance will be from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Monday to Friday, with an hour lunch break.

Holidays:

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days.

 

Duties: 

       
1. Bookkeeping and maintaining Excel spreadsheets for clients

2. Assisting in preparing accounts for sole traders and small companies

3. Helping in the firms payroll and tax departments 
  
4. Data inputting for accounts software packages

5. Basic IT work from time to time

6. General office duties maintenance and support

7. General office errands 

8. If not already attending college be prepared to attend a local college on a day release basis and study for the examination of the Association of Accounting Technician.  The course will be paid for and study leave given by agreement.

Essential:

• Knowledge/qualifications:
 
• Accurate and good working knowledge of Excel.

• Familiarity with general office procedures.

• Qualifications in English and mathematics equivalent to GCSE grade C.

• Communication: clear, concise, timely and appropriate oral and written communication; is able to communicate information in an understandable way orally and in writing, as suitable to the situation.

• Self-motivation: meets objectives and standards on own initiative.

• Teamwork: flexible; co-operative; helpful; self aware; collaborates well.

• Organisation: systematic; efficient; meets agreed priorities and deadlines on own initiative

• Response to change: investigative; adaptable;

• Physical: able to use display screen equipment extensively, according to health and safety guidelines.

• Ethos: sympathetic to the Christian/charitable ethos of the firm.
 

Desirable:

• Knowledge of Microsoft Packages and Outlook Express.

Duties:

  1. Oversight and responsibility for the preparation of financial statements for various small and medium sized traders and charities.
  2. Oversight and supervision of junior staff.
  3. Some audit work.
  4. Completion of VAT Returns and management accounts.
  5. Completion of Income Tax and Corporation Tax Returns.
  6. Occasional visits to clients premises.
  7. Proactive support to clients’.
